Solar Power – Weighing the Positives and Negatives

Solar power is one of today’s most efficient sources of energy. Although several advantages have been noted on the use of solar power, quite plenty of disadvantages have also been discovered.

Solar power is a renewable energy. We will always have a source of this energy as long as the sun is still shining up there. You do not really have to worry about the degree of your consumption of the energy, because even when you think that you have used up a lot of the sun’s energy today, you are still sure that you will be given more supply tomorrow, the next day and all the days to come.

Generating solar energy is also a very silent process. No noisy machineries are being started up, just like when you use artificial sources of energy. With solar the use of solar panels and solar arrays, the sun is able to transmit energy into our homes without a single sound.

Another great advantage of using natural sources of energy, just like with solar power, is that no pollution is being produced. As mentioned earlier, solar power is an efficient energy source because of its efficiency and its being environmentally – friendly.

One major disadvantage of solar power is that you cannot use it at night. Of course, the Sun will have to stop shining when night time starts to fall; and no Sun, basically means to power, no energy, no electricity. This disadvantage of the use of such a promising energy source as this, is the major reason why until now the use of such is not yet been adapted by everybody. The solar panels can only produce energy when it is struck by the light energy from the sun, otherwise called as photons. So, when the sun goes down, the power will be turned down, and that means an artificial source will already be needed. Most people find this a hassle, and so they opt to just stick on the more convenient one.

Another disadvantage of solar power is its economic issue. A single piece of solar panel can never provide us with the power that we need to perform our daily tasks. Hence, an array must be made. A solar array is made up of many solar panels. So, you can just imagine how much money you will need to install hundreds of solar panels to produce your electricity need in the morning operations of your business or household activities. Another noted economical disadvantage of using solar power is that solar panels are not really that durable. Since it is exposed to not only photons, but also on the ultraviolet rays from the sun, the panels are likely to deteriorate in a relatively short period of time.

Installing solar power generators may be a little bit costly, but in the long run, you will be able to find out that you actually have gotten more out of your investment. It could pay you off up to even ten times of the cost of your investment because you will be able to save up ample of amount on your electric bills.
