Solar energy is environment friendly energy and one of the energies with the biggest potential we know. Solar power, which we can use to produce electricity, has an incredible power and is available already for more than 5 billion years, and besides that, it is also clean and does not harm our environment. It is understandable that more and more people in the world and also in Slovenia decide to set up their own solar power plant. People have found out that solar power plant is friendly to our environment and we can also earn some money with it.

The solar power plant itself consists of solar cells. The size and productivity of our solar power plant depends on the number of solar cells. Solar cells are made from at least two joined layers of semi-conducting material. That material becomes conductive when sun rays shines on it, and then production of electricity begins. Nowadays, the most commonly used semi-conducting material in solar cells is silicon, which can be found in nature in high quantities.

There are many reasons, why to set up a solar power plant on our roof or on sunny meadows.

1. Solar energy – clean and renewable energy source: Solar energy is one of the most clean energy sources on Earth. Thus when producing electricity, we do not produce any other products, which could harm the environment. Solar power plant also does not make any noise, which could disturb neighbors, as well as it doesn’t produce any greenhouse gases, for example carbon dioxide. Energy, produced from solar power, is clean, and not only it doesn’t harm the environment, it also helps to reduce the effects of global warming. It is also a renewable energy source, since the energy needed for electricity production is taken from permanent natural processes, which are active for thousands of years.

2. Simplicity: Toda, setting up a solar power plant is not as complicated as it used to be. Many companies are engaged in production and installation of solar power plants, so there is no need to worry about our power plant working as it should. It is only important to leave setting up and installation of solar power plant to the professionals, who know how to handle these things. Also materials, which are used in solar power plants, are finished to the perfection and very easy to maintain, so you don’t need special knowledge to maintain solar modules. Lifetime of solar collectors is up to 30 years and even more, if you maintain them properly and regularly.

3. Profit: For households are definitely the most interesting solar power plants, which are connected to the electrical network of the local electricity supplier. That enables us to sell the electricity, produced by solar power plant, and thus get our invested money paid off in a couple of years, and then we earn more and more money each month. Solar modules, which convert solar energy to electricity, produce DC electric current, which are then converted to alternating current in the inverter. That is then sent to the electrical network, because it is suitable for use in households, and electricity supplier pays us for it. Our earnings depend only on weather. Some households say that they earn a few hundred euros a month. And this is some money, isn’t it?
