In the last 100 years, electrical power produced the means of providing the chance for the biggest development and improvement in the lives of mankind. One of which is the uses of solar electricity systems to harness the sun’s energy and produce electrical energy for the uses of everyone.
Solar electricity systems utilizes, both indirect and direct methods in harnessing the energy of the sun. The direct methods use photovoltaic which, is commonly known as solar cells made from thin slices of crystalline gallium arsenide, silicon, or other semiconductor materials to change solar radiation into electricity. By connecting a large numbers of these cells into the panels, the price of photovoltaic electricity is reduced to the low price of 20-30 cents per kilowatt-hour. This technology has been used for a long time in providing electrical energy to satellites that orbit the earth and to observing satellites in the depths of space. Solar electricity systems also give long term and sustainable energy source as the non-existence of mechanical parts which is not equal in the power generating power plants. But, the efficiencies of these cells are very low and also dependent on which time of day and the different seasonal changes. Solar electricity systems required to convert the DC voltage into AC voltage current which becomes a compatible supply in order to be utilized for commercial and home.
The indirect methods use the concentration of solar radiation to maintain the energy to heat or boil some liquids like water to the power turbines and then produce electrical energy. One of the primary technology is the uses of a parabolic trough which consists of a linear parabolic reflector and this reflector then concentrates solar energy into a receiver which is then positioned on the focal line of the receiver. In the line of the receiver, a tube is attached to the turbine which is filled with liquid to absorb the heat generated by the concentration of the solar energy in the system. Solar electricity systems such as this have a much higher efficiency because the heat of the sun is used directly. Moreover, other technologies increases the efficiencies by using solar power towers and solar dishes to get energy.
Now that we have experienced all the benefits of fossil fuels and also realized its negative consequences to the system. Moving the trend towards the use of sustainable and cleaner energy, we understand that is a must in order to insure the life on earth. Since plants have harnessed the solar energy for a very long time before people ever existed. Why this cannot replicate its ability to take this energy from the sun when now that we are more intelligent beings than before? We must stop excavating the ground and begin focusing in searching up on the sky above specially the sun. Solar electricity systems offer these means in obtaining the goal that we have anxious been looking for in a long time.
