I know they have solar panels and they can be bought. But, does anyone know of an example of a residential or small business in new york city that uses solar power to offset some of the electrical bills.

Sounds like you need to call ConEd and ask if they do “Net Metering”.

New York (the whole state, not just the City) is higher up in latitude than the answerer to that other question, so you’ll get less sun and need a larger array to accomplish the same.
